soil screeningAlpine Services made some custom modifications to a Cherrington beach cleaner so that it could address an observed problem with stones and foreign matter on athletic fields.

The customized unit is now capable of screening soil, up to four inches deep, through either a 5/8” mesh or a ½” mesh and then immediately returning the soil to the field.  This effectively removes objects from the field that can injure an athlete while preserving the integrity of the field.

“This was one of those instances when we weren’t satisfied with what existing technology could achieve, so we took matters into our own hands and modified a standard peice of equipment to meet our needs,” said Grove Teates, founder of Alpine Services.

Because the soil is loosened during the process, new grass can grow quickly.  The screening process typically takes several days and is certainly worth the time and investment in order to make athletic fields safer.
