Grove Teates, an industrial engineer by training, launched Alpine Services in 1982.  Initially the company focused on building premium tennis courts and was the first in the industry to employ laser-guided grading.  Teates worked with laser industry experts to develop lasers appropriate for use in building tennis courts and later other athletic fields. Alpine’s early work quickly impressed even the most discerning eyes.

Athletic Fields

Based on its success with tennis courts, Alpine was asked to build the baseball field that the minor league Bowie Baysox now call home.  Beginning with that first foray into athletic field construction, Alpine began to develop specialized methods and equipment for the sports field industry, and has since built or renovated dozens of professional, college, high school and municipal fields of all types.

“In some cases I wasn’t satisfied with what existing technology could achieve.  When I found myself wishing for devices that didn’t exist, I decided to make them,” said Teates.

Bulk Snow Removal

While they were perfecting the art of athletic field construction, Grove and his wife, Judy, also developed a large-scale snow removal service that was at one time the second largest in the State of Maryland.

“We saw opportunities to improve the way highway bureaus approached large-scale snow removal,” recalled Teates.  “We were among the first in the Mid-Atlantic to deploy big blowers to lift snow over Jersey walls and other barriers.  This saved governments a lot of time and money.”

Alpine Services is a recognized innovator in the athletic field industry and has earned a reputation for producing high-quality athletic fields, both natural and artificial.  It also has a reputation for providing reliable, high-capacity snow blowers for rent, in any state, for exceptionally deep snows.

Whether you are interested in any phase of athletic field contruction, heavy maintenance, renovation or removal, or if you have snow bound roads and road shoulders, Alpine Services can meet your needs quickly, efficiently, and with certainty.

“We can’t rest on our laurels,” said Teates.  “When people ask me which project was the most significant, my answer is always ‘the one we’re currently working on.’”

From valuable design input during the bidding process, through the difficult trenching operation, and into the final grading and successful sodding operation, Alpine Services consistently delivered an extremely high level of services while maintaining the challenging project schedule. Your cooperation and commitment to quality workmanship were a great asset to the project and were greatly appreciated.

Thank you for all your assistance in the renovation of the Little League World Series field here in Williamsport. Your work of laser grading the field and spreading all the topsoil and Pro-Mix was of the highest quality and contributed to the end result of a baseball field that will be a showpiece for many years.

Ron Scott, Director of Building and Maintenance, Little League Baseball Inc.

Much appreciation to you and your staff for the outstanding work on the Virginia Episcopal School baseball field. I enjoyed getting to know you and work along with you. Your professional approach, knowledge and work ethic were most impressive. I hope you will pass my feelings along to your men.

Max Meador, Assistant Headmaster, Virginia Episcopal School.

Our field was one year behind schedule when Alpine Services was called in.  As soon as Alpine drove up with their equipment, I knew we had hired the right company to get the job done. I felt confident in their work from the start. Grove transformed it from unusable to excellent in a week! The quality of work was night and day compared to the original subcontractor.
